The streets of London Fashion Week

From the runway to streets, London is easily one of the most fashionable cities in the world. Here are some of my favourite looks taken from the streets of London during London Fashion Week.

Remembering McQueen

Stylish celebs and the fashion elite gathered at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to remember fashions favourite son, Alexander McQueen.

Among McQueen’s close friends and family were stars including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Vogue editor Anna Wintour; who all stepped out in McQueen’s designs to pay their respects.

Before his death, Alexander McQueen was named British designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003 and was also awarded the CBE for his work in the fashion industry. His outrageous and daring designs earned him a massive celebrity following. Lady Gaga and Rhianna quite often sported his bizarre creations in film clips.

McQueen’s body was found in his London Flat on February 10, 2010.

With the fashion world remembering McQueen, I have decided to take a look back over his astonishing career and bring you some of my favourite and most memorable McQueen Moments.

Futuristic Tribalism: Sass & Bide LFW SS11

The music started and the crowd fell silent as Blonde amazons strutted out into the white room with their tightly braided topknots and beautifully bronzed skin.
The Aussie duo have delivered an eclectic and bold collection full of tribal elements & relaxed silhouettes in the season’s earthy colour palette of creams, khaki’s blacks and whites. And let’s not forget the signature monochrome prints that we have come to love and expect of the label.
Silky jumpsuits, draped dresses and heavily embellished tops and jackets were adorned with huge raffia collars and boleros adding a hint of drama to the collection.
Standing out from the muted colours were remarkable coral ensembles; a stunning mini dress topped off with a raffia collar and ornamented with golden accessories. An unexpected, yet surprising addition to the collection, the look was definitely a favourite of mine and I’m sure is set to be a highly sought after look by fans worldwide.
All and all, Sass & Bide have shown us the future, and I for one cannot wait to get there.

Return to the seventies: Unique LFW SS11

Glamour in its most dramatic form, TopShop’s ‘Unique’ collection has taken us back in time to the ethereal and decadent seventies, where the hair is wild and unruly and the fabrics were floaty and romantic.

With the old Eurostar Terminal as the location, the curved glass and concrete structure provided a powerful contrast as the models strutted out in looks of sheer extravagance; draped in floaty fabrics, metallic prints and heavily embellished with sparkling crystals. The collection was consistent in its modern design with a seventies aesthetic, in neutral tones of nudes, blacks, reds and whites. Hemlines were of all lengths and cuts and mixed with glam rock sequins, and heavy fringing. The look was perfectly paired with round mirrored sunglasses, leather necklaces and clear perspex platforms- my tip to be a highly sought after piece from this seasons collection (I can see my credit card bill now!)
It is refreshing to see a collection of this calibre come from a high street store. With such vision and clear concepts, it is easy to see why it is so highly regarded within the industry and why TopShop is still one of the most coveted shows on the schedule.
Check out some of the amazing runway looks below or head to London Fashion Week's Official site for complete coverage of the show.
